The Mackerel Are In!
Every August the mackerel come into the bay and provide great fishing for locals along the Prom. Last year they didn’t arrive and I had wanted to paint this annual tradition.
Last evening, as the tide was coming in, there were quite a few fishermen who seemed to be catching some. I pitched the easel just east of Palmers Rock and started to paint. The sky was amazing and promised a great sunset.
The colours changed constantly and, as the sun set, the pinks and salmons against the pale cerulean blue sky were so beautiful. In front of those colours floated some dark bluey grey clouds which added great depth to sky. The sea as always picked up the colours from above.

Loads of happy people walking the Prom as ever. Two of my sons and daughter-in-law were out too, so hence photo of me with my final sketch.
It was nice to have company on last expedition! I was also visited by Joe Shaughnessy from The Connacht Tribune and Niall got this shot !!
I will miss these painting sessions. I will not miss always watching the weather and trying to get timing right etc. It has been such an interesting year and I have learned so much.
Thank you to everyone for your support and encouragement. I look forward to seeing you all on 15th September at the Exhibition Opening.
